Every picture below is a reading of this repository, measured at revision 279967b on . Nothing here is an illustration: area is measured bytes, position is measured co-change, height is measured commits touching a file. Where a file could not be measured, the picture leaves a gap and counts it rather than drawing something plausible.

Where the pictures come from
Measured, not drawn
Cognithamus reads a repository the way a survey reads ground: file sizes, which files change together, how often each one is touched. Those measurements become a World, and each reading here is one projection of it. Nobody chose where anything sits.
3 readings, one snapshot
They are not filters over one image. Each answers a question the others cannot — what it is made of, what moves with what, where the mass concentrates, how complete the reading was — so two of them looking different is the two questions differing, not a style.
Drawn on your machine
There are no stored wallpaper files. The picture is drawn in your browser and rasterized to 2560×1440, 3840×2160, 3440×1440, 1179×2556 on a canvas in the same tab. No request leaves your machine when you download one, and no account is asked for.

Most of these move — the genome turns, the brain's fibres pulse, the planet rotates. A PNG is a still of something that is already running, so the running version has its own address: /wallpapers/live, with ?render=dna to pick one. Nothing on it but the render.
Point a wallpaper host at that URL and it becomes your desktop. Plash does this on macOS and Lively Wallpaper on Windows; both are free, and both load a page in their own window rather than an iframe, which is what this site allows. It also works as a browser new-tab page, an OBS browser source, or a tab left open on a second screen.
Held under 30 frames a second
A wallpaper runs all day behind everything else, and these scenes were written for a browser tab, where drawing as fast as the display can is the right default. Behind a desktop it is the reason a fan comes on. The live page holds every animation to a budget — enough for a drift and a pulse, far less than a tab would take.
The motion is live, the measurement is not
The scene animates. The reading behind it does not — it is the same frozen snapshot at revision 279967b as everything else here, and nothing on that page re-measures anything. A wallpaper that tracked a repository in real time would be a different product, and it is the one you sign in for.
The interesting one is your own codebase.
